Residents of Tamale petition the MCE over faulty street lightening

Some residents of Tamale have petitioned the authorities especially the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly over the dysfunctional street lightening system in the Greater Tamale area.

Hon. Salifu Sule, Tamale Mayor.

The city of Tamale has in the passed one year or more been thrown into darkness as the principal streets are left to the mercy of motorists for lightening at night.

The number of crimes recorded in recent time is unprecedented, robbery and murder cases have since risen within this stretch of time in Tamale as the situation has created an opportunity for mainly thieves and robbers to operate.

Prince Barak, a journalist at Justice FM in Tamale and Mohammed Awal Khalillahi Alaafeilana a popular social media activist are the leading petitioners of the MakeTamaleBrightAgain campaign.

Recently, media reports indicated that a popular business woman, Hajia Sawudatu known in Tamale as ‘Fataw Bicycle’ had her V8 land cruiser car snatched away with some sums of money while she was returning home from work.

In another viral video sighted some weeks ago on social media, a young girl was murdered with all her intestines taken out and body abandoned at an undisclosed location in Tamale.

The people of Kpalsi in the Sagnarigu Municipality had reportedly seized an Opel car in a goat stealing operation when it was abandoned by thieves on their detection in the area at night.

These and more may havs informed the petitioners decision to launch a campaign as the #MakeTamaleBrightAgain campaign.

The two have on Monday 29th November, 2021 launched the petition on one of Ghana’s top online petitions hub, www.change.org which is currently accepting signatories.
